Could I use Rosetta Stone to study French and then take the AP test? by avfc41, June 19, 2009

You could try it. One issue is that Rosetta Stone uses the immersion method, where you don't memorize word lists and verb forms or anything like that; you're shown pictures of things and actions, and are given the French with no translation. For someone wanting to speak the language, it's probably a quicker way to learn things, but it may be tough to pass a test where they may drill you on all the forms of a verb in different tenses.

But, how much does it cost to take an AP test? Compare that to the cost of a college course – it's probably worth trying.

Possibly, but it will be hard. I don't see why you couldn't. And it's strange that your school doesn't offer French, but they have AP French.

Probably, but make sure that the software has speaking exercises because there is a speaking section on the AP exam. Make sure grammar is also covered.
